The Discovery Center of Idaho offers a wide variety of fun, hands-on programs outside of the Center. Our educators are committed to bringing STEM learning to everyone in the greater Treasure Valley. You provide the imagination, the students, and the location; we’ll do the rest.
CHOOSE YOUR EXPERIENCE
This 30-60 minute long presentation can be tailored to fit any curriculum, or teachers can choose from topics such as space travel, wildlife biology, or physics. Students are encouraged to participate, and our professional educator will offer tips on how to try variations of experiments at home.
Our educators will guide learners through engaging, hand-on engineering activities or lessons during this outreach program. Stomp rockets and downhill racers are just some of the hour-long activities currently available. Students will have the chance to work through the engineering design process as they design, build, and test their own creations. Ingenuity and imagination required!
These activities are designed for 100 participants max, per hour.
HALF-DAY SCIENCE FESTIVAL
Combine our science shows with the aforementioned hands-on activities for up to 3 hour of scientific fun! Choose from:
- One science show followed by an activity for up to two hours OR
- One hands-on activity available for up to 100 participants per hour.
FULL-DAY SCIENCE FESTIVAL
Need an event that accommodate your entire school or organization? Schedule a full-day science festival for 3.5-6 hours of science fun, with plenty of opportunity for everyone to participate! Choose from:
- A science show followed by 1-2 activities for the rest of the day, OR
- One show repeated every hour throughout the day, OR
- Two activities, available all day.
Teams are given materials to complete several design problems, and how they use those materials is up to them! We then test each design and declare a winning team. Accommodates 20-100 people (prior coordination is required for groups over 100). Recommended for 7th grade and up.
“There are not very many opportunities for our students to have such a wonderful chance to build and learn in this fashion. I love the hands-on experience. This kind of interaction is what kids remember and what might influence their decision about career choices later on. It is so important and exciting! Thank you!”
