Science with Style Annual Gala 2020 @ Chateau des Fleurs

Don’t miss out on one of the most fun galas in town! The Discovery Center’s Science with Style Gala is the Center’s largest annual fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $112,000 for the Center, and we need your help!

What: Catered 3-course 'Meal on the Nile' Dinner, Hosted Beer and Wine, Science Demonstrations, Silent and Live Auctions, and Much More!
Attire: Themed attire is strongly encouraged. Think King Tut!

Meal on the Nile Choices:
- Starter: A community grazing platter of assorted greens and herbs, dips, vegetables and pita.
- Main: Beef Kubideh Kabob with garden vegetables skewered and flame charbroiled over fruitwood charcoal. Served with Saffron Basmati rice OR Bone-in Butter Chicken thighs slow-cooked served over Jewel of the Nile Basmati.
Dessert: Fresh fruits of the Nile, orange and chocolate bundt cake.

Join us at Expo Idaho and have some fun with your kiddos at the 22nd Annual Boise Kid's Fair. The Discovery Center will be bringing some of your all time favorite hands-on exhibits and hands on activities! Also, don't forget pictures with PJ Masks, bounce houses, animals, magic shows, dance performances, local vendor booths, free stuff, games with prizes, and more!

PROGRAMMING:

  • Idaho National Laboratory: Harmon Veselka, a Mechanical Engineer with INL, will be here with a full-size MMRTG model display, demo, and activity.
  • Boise State's Microgravity Research Team: Their team will be bringing their ping pong ball launcher, an enclosed system, to show just how powerful an object can be at different velocities.
  • DCI Education Team: Join our educators for a rocket story-time and activity, plus some arts and crafts.

ABOUT HARMON VELESKA: Harmon Veselka is a Mechanical Engineer in the Radioisotope Power Systems Group at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).  He is the SME for the assembly of the fuel modules energizing the Radioisotope Thermometric Generators (RTG's) that power space missions, such as the Mars Rover scheduled to leave earth for Mars in this summer.  He is also involved in the mass properties and Thermal Vacuum testing of the RTG's performed at the INL.
