The R.M.S Titanic struck an iceberg and started sinking in the North Atlantic late in the evening of April 14, and succumbed to the icy waters at 2:15am on the morning of April 15, 1912. To memorialize and learn more about this tragic event and the impact it has had on us even 109 years later, Discovery Center of Idaho is excited to announce a special virtual programming event.

This FREE program shares expert insight from two of our local, Titanic experts, David Concanon and Eriks Garsvo.

APRIL 14:

3pm - Remembering Titanic: Virtual Student Program with Eriks Garsvo

  • Grade levels: All are welcome, geared towards 3rd grade and up
  • Register your class or learning pod HERE
  • Eriks Garsvo , Director of Owyhee County Historical Society, and local Titanic expert and historian takes us on a tour of the history and context around how and why Titanic was built and how and why the “Unsinkable” R.M.S. Titanic sunk in April 1912. He will also provide us with a mutli-media tour of what the Titanic looked like on the inside and a peek into what life was like for those on board before tragedy struck.

5pm- Exploring Titanic: Virtual Course in partnership with Varsity Tutors & David Concannon

  • Grade levels: All are welcome, geared towards 3rd grade and up
  • Register HERE
  • A Fellow of The Explorers Club since 1996, David G. Concannon is a veteran of several deep-water search and recovery expeditions, including three expeditions to the R.M.S. Titanic. He organizes major expeditions and advises clients on exploration-related issues through his company, Explorer Consulting.  In 2000, he made the first dive of the new century to explore the wreck of the R.M.S. Titanic.
  • Join David as he takes us exploring with him to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean! How are artifacts from the bottom of the ocean collected and restored? Is the spirit of exploration still alive and well? How can we keep the memory of the Titanic crew and passengers alive for generations to come?

7pm - Remembering Titanic: Virtual Program for the whole family!

  • This is the grown-up version of the 3pm student presentation
  • Join in on Zoom HERE

9pm - Step Back to Titanic! Join Eriks Garsvo as he hosts a 60-minute viewing of a real-time recreation of the sinking of the Titanic by Titanic: Honor & Glory on YouTube. “Re-live” the sinking experience exactly 109 years after the original.
