Why are we focusing on the C and Python coding languages at this camp?
C is the mother of all languages and is used as a base for many other coding languages (including Python), providing a strong foundation for future learning. It is a mid-level language combining low-level strengths (speed & performance) with high-level strengths (ease & platform independence). We’ll be focusing on C coding to provide instructions to robots, but you might also want to learn C if you plan on developing software, hardware, or even operating systems. Read more about the C language HERE.
Python is the fastest growing language in the world because of its versatility. You can use it to develop video games or GUIs (graphic user interfaces) like Instagram, but it’s also hugely important in analyzing data. Anyone from a biologist working with genetic sequencing to a marketer studying social media trends can harness thousands of Python libraries for their specific purposes. It provides a happy medium between doing something very simple with a single line of code, to doing something very complicated with a fine level of control.
